Charge Man in 63rd Street Slaying

A 37-year-old Jeffrey Manor man has been charged with murder in connection with last month’s slaying of a 30-year-old man in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood.

Reginald McCune, of the 9500 block of South Clyde, was apprehended at his home on Monday, January 3 by CPD officers and the Great Lakes Regional Task Force.

Police said McCune shot Devonta Anderson in the back as he stood on a sidewalk in the 2800 block of West 63rd Street at 3:07 p.m. Monday, Dec. 20.

Anderson was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:37 p.m.

According to public records, Anderson had a history of run-ins with police. He was arrested 10 times by CPD since 2014, on such charges as assault, aggravated assault, domestic battery, criminal damage to property, burglary, possession of a controlled substance and gang loitering.

McCune is due in Central Bond Court on Wednesday, January 5.

According to public records, McCune has been arrested 10 times by CPD since 2015 on such charges as violating parole by having contact with gang members, drinking alcohol on the public way, DUI, assault, battery, domestic battery and retail theft.
