Midway Baseball & Softball Association Starts Its 2025 Spring/Summer Season

The boys and girls (and moms and dads) of the Midway Baseball Softball Association began their 2025 spring/summer season earlier this month with festivities that included a parade down 67th Street, music from a mariachi band, ceremonial first pitches by 23rd Ward Ald. Silvana Tabares and State Rep. Angie Guerrero-Cuellar (D-22nd) and more.

Here is an assortment of photos graciously shared by MBSA President Mike Carrano and softball Vice President Elsa Rivera. The Southwest Chicago Post, in turn, is pleased to use our platform to bring them to you and give our community's children a tip of the cap as we wish them a safe, successful and fun 2025 season.

Since 1971, the MBSA has provided athletic opportunities to thousands of boys and girls on the Southwest Side and nearby suburbs--teaching lessons that last a lifetime: physical fitness, mental discipline, teamwork, sacrifice for the greater good and good sportsmanship.

Midway Chamber of Commerce's Pet Parade and Vax Event: Fun on Four Legs

All dog owners in the greater Midway area are invited to the Midway Chamber of Commerce's annual pet parade and vaccination event, set for Saturday, May 31 at Wentworth Park, just east of 57th and Narragansett.

"This is a big, fun event for the entire community," said event Chairperson Kristin Cacciottolo-Jeziorny. "It's also practical, offering the opportunity to keep dogs up to date on their vaccinations, which is important."

There is no charge to enter the event or participate in the parade.

The event starts at 9:00 a.m., with at least a dozen local vendors--many of them pet oriented--selling their wares and talking about services they offer. Those visiting the vendors will receive a pet parade "passport" which will be stamped at each table. A fully stamped passport will enable holders to enter a raffle for prizes.

At 9:30 there will be a blessing of the pets by a local clergyman, followed by a parade of pets around the park. Pet owners are welcome to dress their canines in costumes. In years past, some owners also dressed up.

At 10:00 a.m. vaccinations and microchipping will begin. Services will be provided at no charge by the Cook County Department of Animal and Rabies Control, in partnership with Mutts of the Midway and others. The one-year rabies shot will be offered, as well as distemper vaccinations.

Dog owners must keep their pets leashed, and services will only be provided to the first 300 dogs in line.

"This is one of many events the Midway Chamber of Commerce presents to promote a better community, to make this area a better place to live, shop and raise a family," Kristin Cacciottolo-Jeziorny added. "I think it shows the people of the Midway area that their local business owners care about them, their families and their pets."
