Details About Shooting Near Ford City

The residences near Ford City Drive and Keeler are no stranger to crime.

Earlier today, there was a shooting there.

Here is a wrap-up just released by CPD:

On Sunday, April 3 at about 1:15 p.m., Chicago Lawn (8th) District officers were called to a person shot in the 4200 block of West Ford City Drive.

When officers arrived, they found a 48-year-old woman shot in the neck.

Officers tried to make contact with a shooting suspect when he barricaded himself and fired shots at police. A CPD SWAT unit responded to the scene, when they were confronted by an armed man. Officers attempted negotiations and de-escalation techniques.

Officers later fired their service weapons, striking the offender. 

No officers were struck by gunfire. The injured shooter was taken into custody and transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he has been pronounced dead.

One weapon was recovered at the scene of the shooting.

The woman who was shot was transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where she was listed in critical condition.

second, 78-year-old man victim/hostage was found to have sustained a gunshot to the shoulder, by the offender. That man victim was transported to Christ, where he was listed in critical condition.

Currently, the specifics of this incident, including the comprehensive use of force investigation, are being investigated by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability with the full cooperation of the Chicago Police Department.The officers
involved will be placed on routine administrative duties for a period of 30 days.
