Senior citizens are invited to take a “walk and talk” hike at the Chicago Portage National Historic Site, near 48th and Harlem, on Thursday, July 7.

A mini-bus will depart at 9 a.m. from Hope Church Midway, 6059 S. Archer, and return by about 1 p.m.
The statue of Marquette and Joliet.

The one-mile hike will be held at a slower pace and will be led by a guide from the Forest Preserve District of Cook County.

Those in attendance will be asked to pay $5 to defray the cost of water, according to trip organizer Richard Techman.

The tour has a limit of 25 participants. To register or obtain more information, call Techman at (847) 257-2277 or email him at namchet9094@gmail.com.

The Chicago Portage National Historic Site marks the western end of the old portage that once linked the Great Lakes to the Mississippi River.
