If you want to have input on the priorities of the Chicago Lawn (8th) District Police for 2026, you may want to participate in the first of two Community Conversations, set for 6:00 p.m. Monday, October 20 at West Lawn Park, 4233 W. 65th Street.
These meetings are required by the federal consent decree of 2019. The decree is designed to reform the Chicago Police Department and make it, among other things, more directly accountable to the people it serves.
In the past, I've been skeptical of these events and suspected CPD was just going through the motions to meet the minimum requirements of the decree. But then I saw how Community Conversations of recent years helped focus police resources on several neighborhood-specific problems--and how, to a certain extent, it worked.
So as a lifelong Southwest Sider who refuses to put up with crime--same as you--I encourage everyone to take advantage of this opportunity and be there at West Lawn Park. Please make your voice heard. Start by registering at chicagopolice.org/convo.
