CPD Warning: Man Tries to Lure Girl

Chicago Police have issued a warning about a child-luring
crime that occurred at about 3 p.m. Thursday, September 13 near 50th and Keeler.

A man reportedly attempted to lure a 15-year-old girl into his vehicle. He tried to engage her in conversation and asked if she wanted to go for a ride.

She reportedly ignored him and continued walking. She did not approach the vehicle, police said.

The offender then sped away.

The offender was described as a Hispanic man age 40-50, driving a black Honda CRV.

Those with useful information to share about the crime are encouraged to call CPD Area Central detectives at (312) 747-8380 and refer to case number JB-439325.

In the wake of the crime, police offered this advice:

• Be aware of this situation and alert your neighbors.

• Call 911 to report any suspicious persons, vehicles or activity in your neighborhood.

• Do not let children walk or play alone. Identify safe havens along your child's route to school and home, such as businesses or trusted neighbors.

• Always be aware of your surroundings.
