Bust Vittum Park Man on Hijacking Rap

Angel Martinez

A 21-year-old Vittum Park man has been charged with
two counts of felony vehicular hijacking, CPD officials said today in a statement.

At 11 a.m. Thursday, March 5, Angel Martinez, of the 5100 block of South Lorel, "was positively identified and subsequently charged in connection to a vehicular hijacking which took place on January 12, 2020," the CPD statement said.

Police said that on Jan. 12, in the 3200 block of West 64th Street, Martinez, along with another person, "approached a male and female victim who were sitting in their vehicle, displayed handguns, and demanded the victims' vehicle. The victims exited their vehicle and gave the keys to the offenders, at which time the offenders fled in the victims' vehicle."

Police added that when Martinez was arrested on March 5, he "had already been placed in custody for a separate vehicular hijacking which also took place on Jan. 12, in the 3500 block of West 74th Street."

"An extensive investigation was conducted by detectives which led to the positive identification of Martinez for this second offense," the statement concluded, "at which time Martinez was located at Cook County Jail and was charged accordingly."

Bond was denied. According to the Cook County Department of Corrections, Martinez' next court date is March 23.

According to public records, Martinez also was arrested by CPD twice in 2017--both times charged with unlawful use of a weapon.
